Like past expansions, itll launch with a series of campaign missions that take you through the expansions story, and. And yet it does seem perfectly reasonable to be frustrated about the sum total of what’s coming after all this time, especially when you consider how large the PvP playerbase of Destiny actually is. The Witch Queen is set to throw some major wrenches into the Destiny 2 works. So yes, I think Blackburn’s transparency here is great, and I am glad that something is coming. Bungie has lost both A) its support studios that it worked with under Activision and B) many core PvP employees to other non-Destiny projects within the company. Simply put, there are not enough resources to go around, which is why PvP and Gambit have fallen by the wayside. Blackburn mentions roles Bungie is currently trying to hire for in order to build out more PvP content, implying the cupboards are relatively bare for those teams, but again, who knows how long that will take to manifest. Almost no one is around to design PvP maps for Destiny because they’re doing so these other future games. Destiny 2: Lightfall is set to launch later today, but ahead of the new expansion, Bungie has identified an issue on Xbox that prevents the game from launching while Forsaken or older content is installed. The common theory, one that Bungie has yet to confirm outright, but was supported by some of Blackburn’s comments yesterday, is that Bungie has simply moved a massive portion of its PvP team to its PvP-focused incubation projects, which we don’t know about yet. Destiny 2 on Xbox wont connect while Vaulted content is installed. The fact that without fail, Destiny dumps loads of PvE content into the game every single season with practically nothing for Crucible or Gambit is bizarre. The point being, PvP is a significant portion of the Destiny population, and yet it’s treated like it practically doesn’t exist, needing to be content with sandbox changes or a few weapons to farm in those modes. And this is without Trials live, which should push those even higher. They have done a good job producing solid PvE seasonal content, this past year especially, and yet looking at the population numbers, this relentless, 95% focus on PvE content only does not make a ton of sense.Ĭharlemagne tracks the players population yesterday 416,000 PvP players and 100,000 Gambit players, compared to 713,000 PvE players (not sure if that counts 158,000 raid players). I do think Bungie has botched their priorities a bit here.
